No unauthorized motor vehicles allowed on trails

August 27th, 2010
There has been an increase this year in the unauthorized use of ATV and dirt bikes on sections of the trail. These vehicles cause heavy erosion and damage to the trails. No unauthorized motor vehicles are allowed on the trails. In fact no unauthorized motor vehicles are allowed on any part of the river valley. The Friends have been in contact with the Toronto Regional Conservation Authority and Del Management Solutions who jointly manage the properties for the Ontario Realty Corporation (who represent the crown, who own the lands). The TRCA and DEL will be putting up some barriers and signage to deter these activities.

The Friends have volunteered to place some of these signs up at the numerous access points. Twenty signs where obtained from DEL on July 23, 2010. Steel poles and hardware where obtained from the TRCA on Aug 6, 2010. Twelve signs where placed in section 1 of the trail on Aug 9, 2010.

How can you help?

If you see ATV and dirt bikes on the trails please forward specific details to the Friends. Details include; date and time, description of vehicle and rider, license plate#. The Friends will forward the info to the property managers, who will then forward the info to the Pickering by-law officer, who will contact the riders.

If you want to help, send us an email. We are always looking for volunteers to perform some of the easy trail maintenance task.
