Whitevale to Green River Section 3 closure

This section was closed to hiking due to hazardous conditions. This section is need of a major maintenance, stairs and boardwalk repairs. Hopefully this will be in the budget for Spring 2026. Trail Maintenance Section 2

Trail maintenance on section 2 Whitevale to Forestream was done Oct 16, 2025. Fallen and/or damaged blazes replaced or repositioned, fallen branches cur and removed. Boardwalk damage reported.

Construction of Stormwater Management Facility Outfall

UPDATE. THE CONSTRUCTION HAS BEEN COMPLETED AND THE TRAIL IS OPEN

The Seaton Hiking Trail will be temporarily closed northeast of the Foreststream Trail (Old Whites Road) Bridge. See attached map. This effects the north end of Section 1 of the Seaton Trail. This closure is required to facilitate the construction of the stormwater management facility outfall to West Duffins Creek. The trail will remain closed in this area until the completion of all construction activity.

Purpose: Construction of Stormwater Management Facility Outfall

Duration: March 9, 2020 to November 30, 2020

For the duration of construction, temporary signage will be installed on the trail to notify users.

Seaton Community Northern Outflow Project Flooding

Users of the Seaton Trail just south east of Forestream Road and at the Hydro line would have noticed flooding of the trail. The flooding is the result of the new Mattamy Homes Seaton Development Water Management design. This design was approved by the City of Pickering and the TRCA. The Friends of the Seaton Trail were never invited to the review of the design process. The new development collects rain water from a large area on the plateau and channels it into a retaining pond. This retaining pond then releases the water into a pipe that leads down the hill to a tributary creek of the Duffins Creek. This release point is 225 meters away from Duffins Creek. The origin tributary creek never handled the quantity or rate of water it has to handle now. The original creeks water was moderately low volume. So all the water would hit the valleys sandy soil and soak in and travel the remainder of its 225 meters under ground to get to the Duffins Creek. With the increase in quantity and rate of flow the small tributary creek can not handle the increase in water which results in the water fanning or the valley floor out over the 225 meters and flooding the Seaton Trail and surrounding woods. The Friends of the Seaton has been in discussions with the City of Pickering and TRCA since June 12, 2019 and they are all stating the project was approved and neither are to blame for the poor water management design. The Friends has pointed out to the City of Pickering and the TRCA that the Seaton Development Southern Outflow project is a proper design. Water is collected from the plateau , channeled directly to the West Duffins Creek in a controlled manner. The Friends has pointed out to City of Pickering, the manor of the City of Pickering and the TRCA that the problem will only get worst when winter comes. The ground will freeze and more water will stay on the surface. At below freezing temperature this flooding will form ice and greatly increase the potential of users of the trail in this area to slip and fall. Discussions are ongoing with both organizations to first get them to admit there is a problem due to this is a poor water management design and then start working on solutions. Seaton Community Southern Outflow Project

Users of the Seaton trail just north of the CPR trestle would have noticed the new Seaton Community Southern Outflow Project. This project collects rain water from the new development being built on the plateau and channels it into a retaining pond, down the hill via a diffusion channel into the West Duffins Creek. The project cut across part of the Seaton Trail for the last 1.5 years. The City of Pickering was responsible to complete this project with the builder. The original posted trailed closed date was Feb 12, 2018. The posted completion date was April 30, 2018. After repeat follow up emails/phone calls with the City of Pickering supervisor the work has finally been completed (Oct 10, 2019).

Found Glasses on Trail at Marker 1N085

A pair of kids glasses were found on the trail around marker 1N085. The glasses were left at the marker.

Widening of Hwy 407, ETR – May 15th, 2017 – Sept 15, 2018

The construction activity has finally been completed on the 407 highway overpass bridge. The Seaton Trail is now full open from Rossland Road (Concession Road # 3, Grand View Park) in the south to all the way up to highway #7 in the north.

Widening of Hwy 407, ETR – May 15th, 2017 – Spring 2018

Regarding the Highway 407 bridges over West Duffins Creek Tributary and Seaton Trail

In summary, the abutments and deck of the Eastbound Lane and Westbound Lane bridges will be widen by 2 lanes to the inside median in each direction to accommodate the ultimate highway 10-lane configuration. However, at this time, only one additional lane in each direction on the bridge structures to achieve a 8-lane configuration is proposed for travel to complement the road works.

The bridge construction is tentatively scheduled to start on May 15th, 2017 and will be completed by end in the Spring of 2018. There will be no direct impact to the trail as a result of the widening the existing bridges, which are single-span bridges over the trail and West Duffins Creek Tributary.

During the above noted construction period for the bridge widening, the Seaton Trail at the Hwy 407 overpass crossing will be temporarily closed due to public and worker health and safety concerns, with the trail scheduled to be reopen in early Spring 2018. There is no change proposed to the trail or its function/features after construction is complete.

Trail Closed Forestream Trail to 3rd Concession

The closure will be Monday to Thursday from 7 am – 5 pm for the next few weeks.
Hydro One will be clearing the hydro path including their easement from just south of Forestream Trail to 3rd Concession.

Update: Work has been completed and the trail is now open.
